Hello and Welcome to Tim Feather Landscape architecture, my story …

I was drawn to the world of landscape architecture as natural consequence of growing up able to roam wild and free in this beautiful country of ours. My early explorations of bush, sea, mountains and suburbs, nurtured in me a love of our natural environment and I have spent the last 30 years creating gardens and landscapes that express that love and my appreciation of our landscapes natural beauty.

Over time my interests and values have evolved. As it became apparent that global environmental issues were real and serious, I was forced to question what good is an aesthetically pleasing landscape if it does not support a wider environmental wellbeing ?  In an attempt to answer this question, I have moved my focus from designing gardens that just please the eye to endeavouring to create authentic, beautiful landscapes that also enhance and support environmental, ecological and public good.

And to ensure I walk the talk, I have taken on coordinating a neighbourhood environmental restoration project with my neighbours and friends, called “Kaitiaki and Friends of Te Aroha Valley”. Our mission is to partner our local community in restoring our bush and stream reserve. Our intention is to leave a legacy of a protected and sustainable landscape for our grandchildrens’ children - one featuring an abundance of native flora, rich with bird and animal life, and a clean healthy stream flowing into the Waitemata. (See more about it under “Landscape Restoration”)

I am blessed to reside on Waiheke Island, in the Hauraki Gulf with my wife Jackie. We live in a house we built in a bush valley, amongst fast regenerating native forest that we share with the kaka, tui, ririoriro, kereru and little blue penguins, not to forget the forest geckos, and eels and kokopu in the stream.

We are also blessed to be visited from time to time by our unruly mob of beautiful grandchildren who like to run wild and free through the valley and bush, down to the beach, bay and beyond!

Oh, and my bio - Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Diploma in Landscape Design, 33 years working as a landscape designer, landscape architect, manager and business owner, in New Zealand and Australia, designing and overseeing the installation of residential, commercial and public realm landscapes.

I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how, together, we can create your piece of “nature by design”.
